Recent Visitors & Events

The Marshal's Office routinely hosts a variety of distinguished, international visitors and delegations. If the President or Provost is unable to meet with a distinguished visitor, they are often represented by the University Marshal, who gives an overview of Harvard, conducts the traditional exchange of gifts, invites visitors to sign the University guest book, and may lead or arrange a tour of Harvard Yard. The office arranges appointments for a variety of other international visitors who wish to meet with Harvard faculty and administrators to learn about specific programs, policies, or operations.

St. Michael's Church in Framlingham, England held a commemorative event to honor the legacy of the Danforth family,
both as loyal parishioners of the church and as pioneers in the settlement of New England. In 1634, Nicholas Danforth
and his family departed Framlingham for the New World, settling in present-day Framingham, Massachusetts.
Thomas Danforth, Nicholas' son, played an important role in the early history of Harvard College, serving as its first
Treasurer from 1650 - 1669 and later endowing a gift to the college which remains in use today. In recognition of the
Danforth family's contributions to Harvard, James V. Baker (A.B. '68, M.B.A. '71) and his wife attended the
commemoration event, taking with them a letter of congratulations from University Marshal Jackie O'Neill, along with
photo reproductions of two documents held by the University Library system related to Mr. Danforth's contributions.
