Delegates Program

The President receives many invitations to attend inaugurations and other special ceremonies from institutions of higher education around the globe. When she is unable to attend, the Marshal’s Office will identify a suitable substitute to represent the University. Often, faculty who have a meaningful affiliation with the inviting institution, or a local alumnus/a, will be asked to represent Harvard. Delegates typically participate in various activities including the traditional academic procession, and also deliver specially printed congratulatory greetings on behalf of the University. Harvard’s Office of Development and Alumni Affairs is an invaluable resource in the effort to identify appropriate delegates.
